A supermarket bakery in Armadale lost cold holding on a prover unit during what should have been a routine June trading week.
The site runs production-critical refrigeration to hold dough at temperature before baking. When that goes down, the bakery production line stops. Shelves go empty. For a major supermarket, that is not a minor inconvenience.
What Was Happening
An inspection identified a failed airflow fan and a compressor running under pressure. A deeper check found the evaporator coil had a refrigerant leak that could not be patched. This was not a single-part fix. The unit needed a full compressor and fan replacement, a new evaporator, and a complete system recommission before it would hold temperature reliably.
How It Was Handled
PEMS handled the job in stages, each documented. The failed compressor and fan were replaced first. Pressure testing then confirmed the evaporator leak, and a replacement unit was sourced and installed. The system was recommissioned and monitored until it reached and held operating temperature. Every stage of the gas reclaim and refrigerant handling was recorded in the service documentation.
The Result
The prover was back in full production operation. The operator received complete service records covering the fault history, each stage of repair, gas handling compliance documentation, and the commissioning sign-off. Nothing was left as a verbal handover.
Why PEMS
A multi-stage fault like this can stretch across weeks of incomplete repairs if the diagnosis stops at the first component. PEMS scoped the full fault at inspection, documented every intervention, and closed the job with a confirmed return to temperature, not just a parts replacement.
Operators running production-critical refrigeration across multiple sites benefit from a contractor who documents to that standard on every callout, not just the complex ones. If you would like a service assessment for your Perth sites, contact PEMS on 08 7095 3550 or visit pemservices.com.au.
