A commercial kitchen operator in Mandurah had a fryer out of service and a big weekend ahead. The middle fryer in the cafe's bank of three had stopped lighting entirely. Thirty minutes of attempting to restart it had produced nothing. With the weekend trading period approaching, the kitchen needed that fryer running.
What Was Happening
The fryer would not light at all. The pilot was dead, and without it, the unit could not operate. This was not a settings issue or an operator error. The ignition and flame-sensing components had worn out. On a bank of fryers, losing the middle unit cuts output significantly, and in a cafe heading into a high-volume weekend, partial capacity is a real problem.
How It Was Handled
Andrew attended site and diagnosed the fault as worn and failed ignition and flame-sensing components on the middle fryer. Both were replaced. During the same visit, the left fryer was also found to have a failed flame-sensing component, caught before it caused a second outage. All three fryers were tested and confirmed operational before Andrew left the site. The work was documented in full.
The Result
The cafe went into its big weekend with all fryers operational. The fault on the left fryer, found and fixed during the same visit, meant no second callout the following week. The operator received a single service record covering both units.
