Bain-Marie Repair at Bethanie Joondanna Aged Care Kitchen

A bain-marie that shows power but produces no heat is one of those faults that looks minor until a nurse is standing in the kitchen wondering why the meal trolley is cold. At Bethanie's Joondanna aged care home, that was the situation. The unit was live. It was not working.

What Was Happening

An investigation in April found melted cabling and undersized wiring inside the unit. This was not wear and tear in the ordinary sense. The cable harness had never been correctly specified for the load the unit was drawing. It had been running that way, degrading quietly, until the connections failed. The bain-marie showed power because power was reaching it. The heat was not getting through.

How It Was Handled

The April visit stabilised the unit and documented exactly what further work was required. That documentation drove the follow-up scope. When the technician returned in May, the damaged cabling was removed in full, correctly recabled, connections crimped and tested. The unit was confirmed operational before the job was closed. Nothing was left on a "monitor and review" basis.

The Result

The bain-marie was returned to full operation with correctly rated wiring throughout. The fault history, findings and completed repairs were documented across both visits. The operator received a clear record of what was found, what was replaced, and why.
